About the race

Join thousands of runners, joggers, and fitness walkers who enter the race each year in Great Falls, Montana. The five-mile road race offers a competitive format with three-mile and one-mile runs offering both a competitive and recreational format.

One of Montana’s Premier Running Events

The race has been named one of the top 100 road races in the country by Runner’s World Magazine. Geared toward both families as well as experienced and elite runners, it offers a 5-mile race, 3-mile run, and a 1-mile run/fitness walk.

The Ice Breaker has attracted an average of 3,600 participants each year and is not only a fitness and competitive event but also has been a social event for the community for over 44 years. All race participants are provided a long-sleeved T-shirt, awarded a finisher medal, 2024 specially designed race bib, and a post-race fuel up provided by Pepsi. There will also be online race results, online photo galleries, and chances to win prizes.

Register for the Ice Breaker Road Race!

Registration starts Monday, March 11th at the Park & Recreation Department, 1700 River Drive North, Great Falls, MT

2024 Race Results online here after race.

Fees range from $22 for adults to $15 for youth 10 years old and under.*

*$10 – Additional registration fee on all entries April 22-28

Race packet pick up and ranking

Registrants can pick up their official race packet at the Great Falls Civic Center starting April 27 located at 100 Park Drive, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Or on race day, April 28, 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. Participants must pick up race packet before participating in their registered event.

Results will list overall rankings for males and females for the 5-mile, 3-mile, and 1-mile races. Results will also list rankings for the following age groups in both male and female categories for each race:

Runners’ Heat

Runners are cautioned that races are most strenuous. Liquid intake is strongly suggested prior to and at all stations. If you encounter or suspect difficulties, stop and ask for aid or advice before continuing.
