Join over 3,000 runners, joggers and fitness walkers who enter the race each year. The five-mile road race offers a competitive format with the three-mile run offering both a competitive and recreational format. Register the entire family in the one-mile jog and fitness run and take advantage of our special family rate.

Registration begins Monday, March 10, 2008.

Entry Fees

$12 - Youth 10 & under
$18 - Youth 11 & over and adults
$50 - Family of 4
$10 each additional youth of the same household.

Entry fee must accompany all registrations and are non-refundable.

No rollerblades, skateboards, bikes or pets are allowed in the race.

Register  at Scheels in Holiday  Village Mall on April 19, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. In conjunction with Ice Breaker Registration on April 19, Scheels  will be hosting special guest speaker, Podiatrist Dr. Ray from 10am to 4pm Learn how to identify your foot type, different shoe styles, and  selecting the correct shoe for you. A perfect way to get ready for the Ice Breaker!  

Instructions and Forms

T-shirt and race instructions can be picked up, starting Monday, March 10, for all three races. Registration forms are available online here, at all Universal Athletic Stores statewide or at the Park & Recreation Office Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm, 1700 River Drive N.

Race Packet Pick Up and Awards

Registrants can pick up their official race packet at the Civic Center Convention Center on Saturday, April 26, 10 am to 6 pm or on race day, April 27, 8am to race time. Participants must pick up race packet before participating in their registered event.

All races are chip timed.

All runners in each race will receive:
• A uniquely designed long sleeved Ice Breaker shirt
(Availability and size will be on first come, first serve basis.)
• Beverage
• Lunch starts at 1:30pm
• Finisher Medallion
• An enjoyable running experience!

Please note: Participants who have athletic team eligibility in either junior high, high school or college are not eligible for the cash awards. An award equal to the maximum allowed will be presented. This will be in the form of a trophy.

5-Mile Awards

Masters are eligible for overall and masters award. Overall masters and male/female winners places 1–10 are not eligible for age group awards.

3-Mile Awards

Overall 1st place male and female winners will receive a cash award and specially designed trophy. Overall male and female 2nd through 10th place will receive special Ice Breaker awards. Overall winners are not eligible for age group awards.

1-Mile Run/Walk

This is not a competitive event. Official times will be posted, but no awards will be given.

Male and female 1st and 2nd place division winners will receive special medals in the following age groups:

Wheelchair

Walkers are encouraged to participate in the 1-mile or 3-mile events. Participants wishing to do the 5-mile must be capable of finishing within one hour.

Participant Information

Walkers

Walkers are encouraged to participate in the 1-mile or 3-mile events. Participants wishing to do the 5-mile must be capable of finishing within one hour.

The Start

Runners will be seeded into the starting area by their anticipated finishing time. Seeded runners (elite and invited) will start from the front. This area will be designated “seeded runners only.” All others are asked to line up according to their anticipated finishing time as identified by “time markings” along the start.

Late Registration

Late registration will be taken race day, Sunday April 22 from 8 am to 1 pm. at the race start (Civic Center Convention Center; enter south door). A $2 Late Fee will be assessed, per person.

Pacing

Runner assistance is prohibited.

Getting to the Start

Plan to arrive early as some streets and avenues may be blocked off to traffic. Please avoid Central Avenue and Park Drive.

Parking

Please use the side streets or the parking lots 1st Ave. N. and Park Drive, 1st Ave. S. and 2nd St., or the lots surrounding the Civic Center. The Gibson Park parking lot and Park Drive will both be closed.

Facilities at Start/Finish

Facilities include rest rooms and water. There are no locker rooms or shower rooms.

Aid Stations (Water)

1 mile - none 3 mile - 1 and 2 mile 5 mile - 1-4 mile

Runners' Heat

Runners are cautioned that races are most strenuous. Liquid intake is strongly suggested prior to and at all stations. If you encounter or suspect difficulties, stop and ask for aid or advice before continuing.

Weather

The 30-year average temperature is 45 degrees F.

For safety and courtesy, please do not bring radio headsets, dogs, bicycles, skateboards and rollerblades to the event.

Vehicles

Runners are reminded to please watch for vehicles on the road at all times.

Official Results

Official same-day results will be available and posted at Gibson Park near finish line area. Next-day results will be printed in the Great Falls Tribune and posted on this website.

Post Race Lunch and Awards Ceremony

The post race lunch will be served at the Civic Center Convention Center following your event. The awards ceremony will be conviened at the Convention Center at approximately 4 pm.

Pre-registration opens at Park and Recreation Dept., Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm through April 21.

Sat., April 9

Special pre-registration booth at Holiday Village Mall, 10 am to 4 pm.

Sat., April 26

Ice Breaker pre-registration and race packet pick-up continues at Civic Center Convention Center, 10 am to 6 pm.

Sun., April 27 - RACE DAY!

Registration will be taken race day, from 8 am to 1 pm at the Civic Center Convention Center; south entrance. A $2 late fee will be assessed, per person.

5-Mile Race Directions

Start at Central Avenue and Park Drive. Go east on Central (staying to the left of the center line) to 9th Street. Turn left at 9th Street (staying to the left hand curb) to 1st Ave. N. Go west on 1st (staying in the left hand lane) past Park Drive under the 1st Ave. N. underpass. Continue across the bridge on the road staying to your left. Take a left at BN Drive (proceed to the right hand side of the road). Go south across RR tracks to Keogh Street. Turn right on Keogh, make a loop and re-enter BN Drive. Stay on the right side of the road. Go to the bridge right on sidewalk across bridge, right at River Road/Central West, loop under 1st Ave. N. Bridge and run down River Drive towards Elks Riverside Park. Stay on the right side of the road. Right to 6th Street underpass to Park Drive to the finish line located approximately at 4th Ave. N.

3-Mile Race Directions

Start at Central Avenue and Park Drive. Go east on Central (staying to the left of the center line) to 9th Street. Turn left at 9th Street (staying to the left hand curb) to 1st Ave. N. Travel left at 1st Ave. N. Go west on 1st (staying in the left hand lane) past Park Drive, turn left at River Road /Central West, taking the loop under the 1st Ave. N. bridge run down River Drive towards Elks Riverside Park. Stay on the right side of the road. Right to the 6th Street underpass to Park Drive to the finish line at approximately Fourth Ave. N.

2008 Race Awards

Overall winners male/female places 1–10 will not be eligible for age group awards. Masters are eligible for overall and masters award. Overall masters winner not eligible for age group.
